Summer Camp Getaways

Each summer, Protestant Community Centers, Inc. (PCCI) program participants, as well as kids from the greater Newark community at large, are given a chance to attend sleep away camp at one of four different facilities in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania including:

• Aldersgate Camp and Conference Center, Swartswood, NJ
• Camp Speers/Eljabar in Dingman’s Ferry, PA
• Frost Valley YMCA Camp in Claryville, NY
• Presbyterian Camp and Conference Center, Johnsonburg, NJ

PCCI partners with 14 outside Newark-based agencies and with Frost Valley YMCA Camp to send over 100 kids for a two-week camp session in New York’s Catskill Mountains. This traditional summer camp provides wide ranging activities including horseback riding, water sports, arts and crafts, and other sports and games.

PCCI recruits, places, provides transportation and scholarships for roughly 250 Newark children in total each summer, giving these kids the chance to enjoy the fun and a lifetime of memories unique to summer sleep away camp. PCCI staff also work with families to assist with supplies, medical concerns and parent orientation.
