Welcome to the exciting world that is Community Agencies Corporation of New Jersey.

Sometimes we feel that we are trying to conquer the world here at CAC.  Our breadth of affiliates, programs, and partnerships is vast, even though we serve only the greater Newark community. This scope is both our strength and our challenge. Our strength lies in our many successful programs and services which provide a continuum of care for children and their parents. Our challenge is found in the seemingly intractable poverty, crime, drug use and hopelessness that overwhelm the great city of Newark. We are committed to and inspired by the challenge.

As caregivers, as tutors, as mentors, as counselors, as friends, our many volunteers and staff members work every day to change lives by providing hope and opportunity.

On any given day CAC’s programs are working:

• with young children and families to provide ‘great starts’ through early childhood care and education and family services,
  
• in schools to empower children to learn and thrive through innovative academic initiatives and after school programs such as those at Quitman Street Community School (a national model community school),
  
• in neighborhoods, nurturing young men and women in need of a home, at emergency housing shelters such as Tillmes House and St. Timothy’s,
  
• in community centers like The Peele Career Institute, providing comprehensive job training and support to unemployed and underemployed adults,
  
• in partnerships across New Jersey where communities join each other to learn, in projects like Read for Life, and SCEEP, a tutoring/mentoring program for Newark children and suburban volunteers.
